National Safety Month in the Workforce

The month of June was designated as National Safety Month by the National Safety Council in 1996.  The goal was to increase public awareness of the leading health and safety risks in our communities, on roadways, and in the workplace to eventually decrease the number of injuries and fatalities here in the U.S.  At Vital Imaging, we are doing our part to ensure safety in our facilities.

4 Topics for 2021

With this being the 25th anniversary of National Safety Month, this year’s 4 topics are as follows:

Topic 1:  Prevent incidents before they start – in order to create a safer workplace, companies must identify risks and take proactive safety measures in order to reduce the exposure to injury causing hazards.

Topic 2:  Address ongoing COVID-19 safety concerns – as we continue to face the issues of the COVID-19 pandemic, employers can play a significant role in getting their employees back to the workplace by building trust around mental health, vaccines (if applicable), etc.

Topic 3:  It’s vital to feel safe on the job – it’s essential that individuals be allowed to be themselves without the fear of retaliation in inclusive safety cultures.  It’s equally as important to focus on psychological safety as well as physical safety.

Topic 4:  Advance your safety journey – improved safety in the workplace is about continuous improvement individually and organizationally.  The National Safety Council is available for guidance where this is concerned.

Safety in the Workplace

Employer’s experience fewer on the job injuries, improved morale, increases in their employee’s productivity levels, and lower costs when they show their concern about their employee’s safety.  Just like the National Safety Council, Vital Imaging strongly believes in their employee’s safety and well-being in the workplace and believes that everyone deserves to arrive safely home.

Workplace Preparedness

Unfortunately, no matter what precautions are taken in the workplace, accidents and mishaps still happen. Thus, it is essential to instil safety drills and other aspects that enhance safe work environments. You can keep your employees and their workplace environment safe by ensuring that you have the following items on hand:

  • Antibacterial disinfectants
  • Automatic defibrillators
  • Medical gloves and masks
  • First aid kits
  • Gauzes, tapes and bandages
  • Safety cones and warning signs

These should be kept on hand and can be ordered online from various companies.  You can always contact the National Safety Council about these items as well.  Here at Vital Imaging, we are doing our part to ensure a safe environment for our workers and patients.  We are here to assist you with any medical diagnostic imaging you may need.
